As the new year kicks in, there are lists of things to get done, goals to accomplish and new habits to start.
The last couple of years I’ve put myself last and it has taken a toll on my body and mind.
This year I’ve decided to focus on myself.
Last year was stressful for me because I took on the roll of “project manager”. We finished a granny unit in our backyard we had started late 2021, and in the summer of 2022 we started romodeling two bedrooms and a bathroom in our house.
We all have that one thing that makes us happy and helps release some stress or just forget about everything even if it’s just for a couple of minutes. It might be reading, crocheting, exercising, sewing, playing a sport or even shopping. For me, it’s gardening and blogging.
You might be asking, ok, but what does all this have to do with your blog. Well, everything.
My blog is what keeps me a sane, it’s “my happy place”. It is my escape from my “routine”. I know I am not the best writer but I enjoy it.
I was worn out and I did not give myself time to be in my happy place, I did not publish a lot of posts last year and I felt like I was just pleasing everyone but me.
If you can take ONE thing from this post, please make sure it’s the following:
Taking care of yourself is not being selfish.
Yes! It’s OK to go out on a coffee date with your bff.
Yes! It’s OK to “go shopping” for 2 hours and return home with nothing.
Yes! It’s ok to sit and do nothing for one day.
Yes, It’s ok to take the kids to daycare/childcare for a couple hours so you can have some FREE time.
Yes! It’s OK to order take out so you don’t have to cook 1, 2 or even 3 days.
YES! YES! YES!
You know why it’s OK? Because if YOU are OK, the rest of your family will be ok. If you have kids, they will be happy because they see you happy and not stressed out and grumpy. They will see a mother that is more loving and that takes care of herself. Your husband will see your beautiful smile more often because you’re not always running around trying to check off the last box on that never ending to-do list.
Fill your own cup first!
We gotta start filling our own cup first in order to help fill everyone else’s.
Start doing the things that make you happy, that make you feel good and give you satisfaction.
Do your makeup.
Get your hair done.
Get your nails done.
Finish that art piece you’ve been working on for the past two years.
Start journaling or blogging.
Go on that trip you’ve always wanted to take.
Wear heels more often.
Dress up and go dates with your husband, boyfriend, significant other, etc.
Make time for yourself.
That’s the goal I will work on this year and I really hope you do the same.
I know this post is a bit out of place with what I normally write but I felt the need to share this with you.
Feeling and looking beautiful on the outside doesn’t matter if you’re not feeling good on the inside. Remember, everything is a reflection of ourselves.
I hope this helps you, let’s make 2023 the year of change. Let’s fill our own cup first.
Let me know in the comments below what is the one GOAL you will work on this year?
